Carob Powder is made from the pods of the Carob tree which is native to the Mediterranean and is also known as honey locust. Carob is very nutritious. It contains vitamins A, B, B2, B3 and D, is very high in calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium and contains trace minerals iron, manganese, chromium, copper and nickel. Unlike chocolate, Carob contains no oxalic acid, which prevents the body using calcium and zinc, both vital for healthy skin. Carob is a good source of fibre and is significantly lower in fat and calories than chocolate.
Carob powder can be added to cold or heated milk for drinking. It may be combined with wheat flour in making bread or pancakes. It is a great alternative to chocolate and is naturally sweet and full-bodied.
